About Us

Cary Evans

Hi! My name is Cary Evans. My FCCLA journey started in sophomore year, though that was Covid year so I decided not to compete. Junior year was my first time competing in a star event and I also served as my chapter's Community Service & Public Relations Chair. I competed in the Teach and Train event but did not move on to state. Senior year I teamed up with Camden to compete in interior design which has been an interest of mine for many, many years and is a big reason why me and Camden are such good friends. With this project we got 5th at region and 1st at state. Senior year I served as our chapter's Vice President.

I want to go on to be a florist so the skills I learned with the principals and elements of design will transition beautifully into the floral industry as well as the public speaking skills I learned through all the competitions I did with my time in FCCLA.

In my free time I love to help my mother with her interior design and staging business and hanging out with my friends.

FCCLA was such an amazing chapter of my life and the friends, connections, memories, and skills will go with me the rest of my life!

Camden Andrew Michalek

Hello! I'm Camden Andrew Michalek and I'm a true designer at heart. I joined FCCLA my freshman year as freshman chair with the intention of competing in interior design starting my sophomore year. Sure enough, sophomore year I competed with then senior Jasmine Cooper. Unfortunately, the two of us did not place at region but that failure inspired me to work harder the next year. Junior year I competed alone and placed 2nd at region and 5th at state, a significant achievement and improvement from the year prior, but I still wasn't satisfied. Of course, senior year Cary & I placed 5th at region (Texas Region V), 1st at state (Texas), and 1st at the National Leadership Conference in Denver, CO, a dream come true. Additionally I was the Cedar Park FCCLA chapter president my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years.

In addition to FCCLA, I was an intern at Mohon Interiors my senior year of high school, helping to design luxury homes around the country. This was an incredibly opportunity for me and I believe it really solidified my path into the industry. I loved getting to help pick out selections, meet with clients and vendors, and assist with installs and photoshoots. It was a huge commitment but I highly recommend that if you are interested in entering into the industry you try to do the same as it gave me priceless experience and contacts that I will have for life.

In my free time I love to design houses. I taught myself SketchUp freshman year and have been honing my skills in the software ever since. I learned to render using D5 and Lumion Junior year and have loved seeing my designs come to life on screen.

I now attend the Savannah College of Art and Design for architecture, and am in the Integrated Path for Architectural Licensure program which will enable me to graduate from college with a Masters of Architecture and my architectural license.

I dream of owning my own firm, designing homes (both the architecture and interiors) all around the world. It was incredible getting to start down this path so early, holding my dream internship in high school, and I can not stress enough the amazing opportunities that FCCLA brought me. FCCLA really opened my eyes into the world of interior design. Yes, I had an appreciation for it before, but without FCCLA I would have never ventured so far down this path. I probably would have migrated to only doing architecture and not gone in search of my internship, which would have delayed my entrance into the industry and probably lead to a less fulfilling high school and college experience.

I am so happy to be sharing my FCCLA journey with you and encourage you to reach out if you are competing in Interior Design!
